Jack gave me a bit of a challenge with his beloved 1973 Stratocaster which to say was a bit worse for wear, would be a massive understatement! The guitar is very sentimental to Jack, previously being owned by his uncle and even surviving a fire!
The guitar has been his number 1 for his whole career and it certainly showed. Broken tuners, tiny and corroded frets, rusted saddles, flaking paintwork, and an action a mile high were the main issues to tackle, as well as some other upgrades and modifications to make the guitar better suit Jack's needs.
The guitar received a full Re-Fretted with Jescar fret wire, fingerboard Re-Shoot, and Re-Radius, Handmade Bone Nut, full electronic Re-Wire including top-of-the-line components such as Tesi Kill Switch, CTS Pots, Pure Tone Jack, Orange Drop Capacitor, Switchcraft 5 Way Switch, and 22 Gauge Vintage Cloth Wire. I also installed a replacement Scratchplate and Control knobs alongside upgraded Highwood Saddles and Kluson Staggered Tuners, all of which I aged to a relic finish. I stripped and sanded back the sharp and flaking lacquer on the back of the neck and I aged the neck to a relic finish. As a surprise for Jack, I also installed a new Neck Plate which I custom engraved with both the Kid Kapichi and MW Guitars logos.
Jack Wilson - "The work Matt did on my guitar has reignited my love for playing. That's the only way I can explain it. She's an old beast and therefore I accepted I would have to wrestle with her each night, I never imagined the playability could be improved that drastically without losing its magic. The changes have made it THE nicest guitar I have ever played, and the amazing thing was that Matt was able to keep the aged aesthetic that I did not want to lose. The level of detail is incredible and he talked me through every stage and helped me understand everything perfectly and was always extremely quick to reply and happy to go over things for my own peace of mind.
I cannot thank him enough for his work and me and the rest of the band will be using MW Guitars till the end of time. Thank you.
