Does my guitar need a Handmade Bone Nut? 

A Handmade Bone Nut is an excellent and affordable upgrade for any guitar. Most guitars come with Plastic / Synthetic nuts which are incredibly poor quality and restrict the guitar from playing to its full potential. Plastic / Synthetic nuts are a very soft material that is often injection molded and even hollow on the inside! The nut is one of the most important parts of the guitar and a poor quality nut often leads to issues such as poor tuning stability, muffled tone and they wear out quickly which causes rattling on the open strings.

What is a Handmade Bone Nut? 

A Hand Made Nut is a completely handmade and custom nut made from a solid piece of dense Bone. Bone is by far the best material for guitar nuts and offers superior tuning stability, tonal transfer, resonance, and longevity. That's why it was used on guitars from the 50s and 60s which is considered the golden era of guitar making, or on some very high-end modern guitars such as Fender Custom Shop Instruments. 

 
What does a Handmade Bone Nut Include? 

- Initial carving from a solid block of Bone to the rough final shape of the nut

- Final adjustments to sizing to ensure a perfect fit into the nut slot

- Installation of the nut into the nut slot

- Nut slots cut to the correct depth (string spacing can also be customised)

- Fine sanding of the exterior of the nut

- Fine sanding and lubrication of the nut slots

 

A fresh set of strings is required for this service and is not included in the price. However, we can supply strings for an additional charge.
